How to setup Hot Keys?
- Open the main SpeedKeys window. (If SpeedKeys is minimized,
you can pop it open by double clicking your mouse on the SpeedKeys icon.)
- From the Options menu select "Hot Keys..." This
will display the Hot Key editor dialog box shown below:
|
- SpeedKeys allow you to define up to 20 different hot keys
and each hot key has a unique hot key number (from 1 to 20). To change the parameters for
a particular hot key, select the number for the hot key from the "Hot Key" list
box located on the left side of the Hot Key Editor window. When you select a hot key's
number, its correct parameters will appear in the window.
Let's say you're defining Hot Key number 3.
Use the arrow keys or your mouse to select the number 3 in the "Hot Key" list
box.
For this example we will use the keystroke
Ctrl-N as our Hot Key. Press the Tab key once to move the cursor to the "Hot Key
Keystroke" text box and then hold the Control Key (Ctrl) down while you press the
letter N. you should see "Ctrl+N" in the "Hot Key Keystroke" text box.
Press the Tab key twice to move the cursor
to the "Keystroke sequence" text box and type the word "Sincerely,"
(without quotes). Next, click your mouse on the button marked "Keystrokes List"
and when the list appears, scroll down until the word "Enter" is highlighted and
click the button marked OK in the Keystroke List window. A "~" will appear in
the keystroke sequence which signifies an "Enter" key. Repeat the same sequence
for your second carriage return or simply type a "~". Now type in your name and
click the OK button.
Now when you press Ctrl+N every time when
SpeedKeys is running the "Sincerely your, " with two carriage returns and your
name will be typed in your application.
This is just a simple example of how you can let SpeedKeys do the typing for you.
SpeedKeys can do a whole lot more. Just think how you would type in address data manually,
for any Windows application, and define your Hot Keys to perform the same keystrokes.
The best way to learn all of SpeedKeys features is to use the context-sensitive on-line
Help system. Just press F1 while working in any of SpeedKeys windows or select
"Contents" from the Help menu.
